The best thing about these interwebz is that new singles from throwback artists are found much more easily. It doesn’t make the songs any better, but at least you can make the judgements on your own. While the Independence Day holiday in the US might have made it a slow week for singles, there’s actually quite a few great ones on this week’s playlist.

SONG OF THE WEEK
MUSE “Survival”
How could it not be? An Olympic themed song that actually does throw in even the kitchen sink. There’s so much happening in this track that I think my mind exploded just trying to recap it.

80S THROWBACK OF THE WEEK
PET SHOP BOYS “The Winner”
This was a tough call with a George Michael single this week as well, but this song would probably be a big hit if a contemporary artist cut it. It’s a little odd hearing these boys sing this song, but it’s hard to deny the simple direct nature of the track.

FOREIGN HIT OF THE WEEK
CRO “Du”
As far as I can tell, this guy is kinda like the Mac Miller of Germany. With a panda suit. And one million views of the video in a week. Who knew?

DISCOVERY OF THE WEEK
LONESOUND “The Great Outdoors”
This UK indie band’s debut EP takes a Cure-like sound to the beginning of their first single and just take off from there. Typically, these songs fall apart, but this one never does. A great debut!

TRY TOO HARD OF THE WEEK
YING YANG TWINS “Fist Pump Jump Jump”
Yeah, we know the Euro-Dance sound is big, but it doesn’t really fit too well.

WTF OF THE WEEK
ILARI “I Delete You”.
Yeah. What he said.
